Immigration "Reform"

I read this article at Breitbart.com and laughed out loud at my desk.

It looks like Congress is getting close to sealing a deal on the illegal immigration problem.

Here is the gist of the new proposed "rules" for illegals already living here:

While final details were not available, in general, the compromise would require illegal immigrants who have been in the United States between two years and five years to return to their home country briefly, then re-enter as temporary workers. They could then begin a process of seeking citizenship.

Laughable. So, in essence, what we are saying is, "Okay guys, we KNOW you came here by breaking the law, but now we want to put you on the honor system, whadaya say?".

Illegal immigrants here longer than five years would not be required to return home; those in the country less than two years would be required to leave without assurances of returning, and take their place in line with others seeking entry papers.

So if I am an illegal immigrant who has been living here for 2 weeks, I am telling the INS that I have been here 5 years, no make it 6 just so it doesn't seem like I am lying, and this way, I stay put. The whole premise is that these people of questionable scruples are suddenly going to "fess up" and not only tell us they are illegal, but exactly how long they have been here, whether it is to their advantage or not.

Standing before television cameras after an appearance Thursday in Charlotte, N.C., Bush said he was pleased that Republicans and Democrats were working together.

I am utterly disappointed in the President's treatment of this issue and it goes to show that no matter how many people in this Democracy cry out, in the end, money talks. The financial advantages of illegal immigration must outweigh our need for truly secure borders. How else would you explain this?

Hey there Bullfrog:
This is one of the most idiotarian pieces of crap that I have ever seen. I am quickly losing any faith that I once had in politicians. Frankly the husband and I were talking about honesty in policy and politics. The ONLY person we could think of who had been HONEST befre he was a politician and then after is ARNIE!!! When Barbara Walters asked him about steriods back in the day, he admitted to using them to enhance his craft. When he was up for sexual harassment, he admitted to behaving badly and then when asked about MJ consumption he admitted to inhaling. If we could have more HONESTY in politics, this type of legislation would not even exist.

The GOP has to take a very hard line on this issue, because the DEMS certainly refuse to. This compromised piece of garbage really does nothing for AMERICANS and AMERICA and is patently offensive.

BTW you handle yourself well with the trolls.

I do think immigration is a complicated problem but even I was disgusted today. I am very disappointed that we aren't doing more to secure our borders.

I am pretty sure that we will have to have a terrorist attack as a direct result of border issues before enough people will wake up on this issue.

And I must admit I was disgusted hearing Teddy Kennedy quote scripture as a reason why we are supposed to let illegals keep pouring into our country.

MSR: Thanks for the response. I am pretty frustrated as well. I plan to do a piece soon that will at least explain why no one wants to tackle this issue head on (although it may not provide any comfort).

I have little experience with Trolls, but some are easy pickin's ;)

LMC: I am not 100% positive that even a terrorist attack would be enough, due to economic reasons. I guess only time will tell.

Have you noticed the play on words in the media regarding this whole thing? Sudden;y their "undocumneted" aliens, noy "illegal". It's all nonsense in my book.

Politicians can't help putting some bone-headed item in a bill. I've just lost faith in the entire lot. I just need to make enough so I can retire to a little hut in Costa Rica.

GG: I agree, they used to be called Illegal Aliens, which is totally accurate, but someone decided it was demeaning, so now they are "Undocumented Workers". Anything to take attention away from the fact that they broke the law just to be here.

James: This whole issue is definitely being handled strickly from a politically expedient standpoint, nothing more. His handling of government spending and the immigration issue has really undermined my faith in the President.
